Acupuncture Regulations & Safety
In the United Kingdom, acupuncture is not statutorily regulated despite the efforts of BAWMA and a number of other acupuncture organisations who have worked with the Department of Health to change this. However, Practioners must still register with the local Council authority for the area in which they are practicing acupuncture.
Voluntary Regulation
BAWMA believes in voluntary regulation, and our trained acupuncturists are registered members who must adhere to our professional codes of practice. Additionally, BAWMA members are registered with the Acupuncture Regulatory Authority (ARA).
Who may not be able to have acupuncture?
There are a number of possible contraindications and side-effects that are associated with acupuncture, your acupuncturist will discuss these with you in detail prior to any treatment.
